BIOGRAPHY
ARTIST STATEMENT
Expression and process constitutes the components to my work. Whether painting
through automatization and intuition or in the planning of complex mixed media works,
I’m interested in how we relate to the world and its conditions both psychologically and
politically. Formal elements of color and shape express these concepts of interior
landscapes. I consciously do not know what will happen in the work, yet I know when it
is done. The struggle to reconcile between impulse and immediacy – toward the final
changing of a work through revision – to a unity that is fresh and surprising to me, is the
foundation for my work.
Recent paintings depict geographic areas in the United States, first with Florida Sinks
(my birthplace). The series will be complete encompassing all fifty states.
My performance work challenges one’s view of gender, cultural values and human rights
issues. Having spent fifteen years in acting and modeling on both coasts, I draw visual
images from these experiences. Whether the Bride, the alter-ego of Henri Bobo or the
more political work of CrossFire, these performances address those issues that resonate
throughout our culture.
